Maybe this sounds spoiled, but I think more could've been done...
The Portland International Airport is a feat of modern architecture, engineering and material ingenuity. However one of the simplest details, the lighting, has fallen short of what could feel like a proper cigar lounge or wine tasting room. Maybe this isn't justified, it's only opinion.
Walking into PDX through arrivals or departures, I get the sense that a lot went into the the 40+ foot tall mass timber roof above. ZGF Archetecture has indeed put the Pacific Northwest airport on the map. However, in their website photos and review images across the website, there is a significant difference between actual lighting & photo shopped references. As an individual who chose a life outside the laboratory, the pale choice of lighting supporting the skylights, knocks a couple points off the walk through.
Yes there are likely some considerations for the biosphere support specific to the plant friendly wavelengths, but a preference of mine strolling through a billion dollar mass timber project, are warm cigar lounge vibe lighting. Otherwise, beautiful project ZGF.
