TPO, PVC, and Modified Bitumen

TPO and PVC are thermoplastic membrane systems designed to expand and contract with temperature changes, a critical feature in a climate that cycles through cold wet winters and warm dry summers. Both systems use heat welded seams that are stronger than the membrane itself, resist moisture and mold, and reflect sunlight to reduce cooling costs.

The key difference. TPO is the more cost effective option and performs excellently across most commercial applications. PVC costs slightly more but offers superior resistance to ponding water and chemical exposure, the better choice for restaurant rooftops, food processing facilities, or buildings where drainage is slow.

Modified bitumen is an asphalt based flat roof system applied in layers and commonly found on older commercial buildings throughout Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District, Lloyd District, Swan Island, Northwest Industrial corridor, and Rivergate. Modified bitumen systems are extremely durable and weather resistant. We repair, maintain, and replace these roofs daily. When a mod bit system reaches end of life, we can replace it in kind or upgrade to a TPO or PVC membrane depending on your building's needs and budget.
