Meet Lenard the Leek
Portland's most wanted vegetable. Roof leak repeat offender. Currently at large in the Pacific Northwest.
Most companies have a friendly mascot. A bear wearing a hard hat. A dog holding a clipboard. Something charming.

Flow Roofing has Lenard.

Lenard is a leek. Specifically, he is THE leek. The one your gutters know about. The one your attic has been hiding. The one your contractor said was "no big deal" three winters ago and is now a $40,000 problem.

He is not a friendly mascot. He is a documented menace.

The Backstory

Lenard the Leek is a vegetable. Pacific Northwest born, Portland based, and despite his cheerful green exterior, fundamentally up to no good.
We do not know exactly how Lenard came into being. Some stories trace him to a forgotten community garden plot off Powell. Others say he sprouted from a saturated attic in Northeast Portland sometime in the late 90s. Verrill, our founder, refuses to comment on the record.

What we know is this. Lenard shows up wherever a roof leak is present. He does not call ahead. He does not knock. He simply appears, takes up residence, and spreads moisture through your insulation while pretending to be vegetation.
His Crimes Against Roofing

Lenard has been linked to the following incidents across Portland and Vancouver:

9 counts of unauthorized attic entry in Beaverton, 2024.
Repeated harassment of homeowners in Lake Oswego who say they "thought it was just the dishwasher."

Sustained water damage in a Tigard split level over a 7 year period before the homeowner finally called Flow.

Aggravated moss promotion across multiple Pacific Northwest neighborhoods.

Conspiracy with Marvin the Moss (alleged, pending charges).
Felony fascia decay in a 1972 Hillsboro ranch.

Repeated trespassing in HOAs across the Portland metro, often refusing to identify which board he reports to.

He has been sighted in every roof we have inspected that needed work. Every. Single. One.

How He Operates

Lenard's tactics are predictable but effective. He targets:
Older roofs with worn flashing.

Gutters that have not been cleaned since 2019.

Attics with poor ventilation, where he thrives in moisture and humidity.

Skylights with failing seals.

Penetrations where someone "just sealed it real quick" with the wrong sealant.

Flat roofs with ponding water.

Any roof where an unlicensed handyman did "a quick patch" with hardware store tar.

Once Lenard takes up residence, he works slowly. A drip here. A stain there. A musty smell nobody quite places. By the time you see him in the form of a brown ceiling stain or a sagging soffit, he has been comfortable for months sometimes even years.
How Flow Roofing Stops Him

Flow Roofing is the only roofing contractor in the Portland metro fully licensed to evict Lenard. Our methods include:

Free inspections that find Lenard before he finds you.

Permanent repairs that cut off Lenard's access points.

Full roof replacements for situations where Lenard has thoroughly settled in and refuses to leave.

Preventative maintenance programs that keep Lenard out for the long term.
Gutter installation and gutter guards that block Lenard's preferred entry routes.

Attic ventilation systems that make your home actively hostile to his lifestyle.
We do not negotiate with Lenard. We do not offer him a settlement. We do not let him stay through the winter "just this once."
We evict him. Every time.
Lenard's Statement
We reached out to Lenard for comment. He did not respond. This is consistent with his behavior pattern of avoiding accountability.
How to Tell If Lenard Is in Your Home
Common signs of Lenard occupancy include:

-
Water stains on ceilings or walls.
-
Musty smells with no clear source.
-
Soft spots in the roof or attic decking.
-
Granules from your shingles collecting in your gutters.
-
Curling, lifting, or missing shingles.
-
Mysteriously high humidity in upstairs rooms.
-
Moss thriving on your roof.
-
A general sense that something is wrong but you cannot quite say what.
A Final Word
Lenard the Leek is not going to introduce himself. He is not going to apologize. And he is certainly not going to leave on his own.
That is what we are here for.

If your roof has been quietly suffering, if you have been telling yourself "it is probably fine," if your last inspection was sometime in the Obama administration, the odds are good that Lenard already knows your address.

The good news. So do we.

Schedule a free inspection. We will let you know if Lenard is in residence and what it takes to remove him.
